The European Commission will organise the European Research and Innovation Days on 24, 25 and 26 September 2019 in Brussels. This large-scale event aims at preparing the future of European R&I, in particular Horizon Europe.
A large-scale event for the future of R&I
From 24 to 26 September 2019, the European Commission will organise the European Research and Innovation Days in Brussels, Belgium. This large-scale event will bring together high-level R&I actors: researchers, entrepreneurs, policy officers, stakeholders, industry representatives, etc.
The main goal of the event: generate debates to shape the future of research and innovation in Europe. In particular, it will focus on the strategic planning of Horizon Europe, which will take over from Horizon 2020 in 2021.
The programme of the European R&I Days is made of 3 different elements:
- A high-level policy conference, which will cover contemporary societal challenges for research and innovation through nearly 100 parallel sessions.
- An Innovative Europe Hub, a meeting, networking and matchmaking space for start-ups, SMEs, investors, entrepreneurs and researchers.
- The “Science is wonderful” exhibition, which will showcase scientific experiences and success stories for the general public.
Registration is free (and mandatory), but due to the high demand, the EC cannot confirm attendance. Nonetheless, you can register on the waiting list here and will be informed if places become available in early September.
Co-design: a key concept for Horizon Europe
The EU R&I Days are organised within a co-design process set-up for the implementation of Horizon Europe. This novel principle aims at associating society and experts to define the programme’s strategic planning and calls for proposals for 2021-2024. In particular, it will focus on Horizon Europe’s second pillar: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness.
In this context, the European Commission has launched two online surveys on Horizon 2020 for all citizens:
- On the programme’s objectives and strategic planning > here (deadline: 8 September 2019)
- On the implementation of the programme > here (deadline 15 September 2019).
