Setting-up a balanced consortium and finding complementary partners is a key aspect for the success of your proposal. In this post, you will find 5 tips for partner search, to help you expand and strengthen your network. <\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Criteria for a balanced consortium<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>consortium\u2019s capacity<\/strong> to reach the <strong>project\u2019s objectives<\/strong> is a central evaluation criteria of your Horizon 2020 proposal. The eligibility criteria for H2020 projects stipulate that consortia have to be composed of at least <strong>3 partners<\/strong> from <strong>3 different Member States<\/strong> or Associated Countries. But in reality, more partners are often needed!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Horizon 2020<\/strong> is a research and innovation programme which aims at boosting EU performance for <strong>competitivity<\/strong>, <strong>growth<\/strong> and <strong>employment<\/strong>. This is the reason why <strong>private organisations<\/strong> (i.e. non-academic, SMEs, industry\u2026) are encouraged to take part in the programme. They will play distinct roles depending on the calls for proposals, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participation to research activities,<\/li>\n<li>Implication as final users of technologies,<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge transfer,<\/li>\n<li>Training of PhD students etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>On-line tools for partner search<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To face this issue, the stakeholder organisations involved in the H2020 programme have created several <strong>on-line platforms<\/strong> to support consortium building. In general, these tools propose a <strong>double approach<\/strong>, with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a \u201c<strong>partner search<\/strong>\u201d section, for coordinators who need to strengthen their consortium;<\/li>\n<li>a \u201c<strong>skills offer<\/strong>\u201d section, for organisations willing to join a proposal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You have to fill a <strong>project sheet<\/strong> or a <strong>form<\/strong> which will be submitted on-line. Try to be clear and precise, especially regarding the H2020 call topic you\u2019re interested in, key words, sector, experience in EU projects, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few <strong>on-line tools<\/strong> dedicated to partner search:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/how-to-participate\/partner-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">participant portal<\/a>, the entry point of H2020 calls;<\/li>\n<li>The network of H2020 National Contact Points (for example, <a href=\"http:\/\/partnersearch.ncps-care.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCPs CaRE<\/a> for the Environment challenge);<\/li>\n<li>Your national <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/support\/ncp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCP<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenmatch.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Enterprise Europe Network<\/a>, which gathers numerous technological partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Existing and on-going projects<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A complementary approach: finding <strong>partners<\/strong> within the consortia of <strong>projects already funded<\/strong> by the EU, according to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The research and innovation area;<\/li>\n<li>The topic of the call;<\/li>\n<li>Key words (sector, technologies\u2026);<\/li>\n<li>The type of structure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although this task may sound tedious, it can lead to <strong>good results<\/strong>: participants in on-going H2020 projects are more likely to prepare new proposals, particularly when their projects (and therefore, their funding) are coming to an end.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>complete list<\/strong> of <strong>EU-funded research projects<\/strong> (including their consortia) can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/projects\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cordis<\/strong><\/a> website.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Info Days and Brokerage Events<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Regularly, the <strong>European Commission<\/strong> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/support\/ncp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>National Contact Points<\/strong><\/a> organise Information Days on Horizon 2020 calls. Not only those events provide <strong>precious tips<\/strong> to prepare your project proposal, but also aim at bringing <strong>potential partners<\/strong> closer. In that context, <strong>networking sessions<\/strong> and <strong>individual meetings<\/strong> are often organised.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, <strong>B2B <\/strong>(business to business) and <strong>brokerage events<\/strong> are often organised in parallel of large conferences and fairs. They consist in <strong>bilateral business meetings<\/strong> between potential (and often industrial) partners. You can find the list of the main B2B events on the <a href=\"https:\/\/een.ec.europa.eu\/content\/events-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Enterprise Europe Network<\/strong><\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>The registration to this kind of events is free\u2026 but mandatory. They can be fully booked several weeks before they take place. So make sure to plan well ahead!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Your presentation matters!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A clear project fact sheet, a great project <em>pitch<\/em> for networking events, an attractive mailing to contact potential partners, etc.: all those elements count to make a good impression for a first contact.
